Michael J. Smith, Jr., 61 passed away on November 23, 2017 in Jamestown after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born in Newport, RI, on November 25, 1955, Jim or “Smitty,” as he was known to his friends, was the son of Marie P. Smith of Middletown and the late Michael J. Smith. He was a computer engineer by profession, a longtime employee of HB Communications, Inc., and served on the board of InfoComm.
Jim co-wrote key texts on audio-visual best practices and taught frequent classes on the subject. He was an avid and published photographer and a devoted volunteer for the Jamestown Fire Department.
In addition to his mother he leaves behind his spouse, Deborah A. Smith of Jamestown, his brother Gary Smith, of Walpole, NH, and his beloved dogs, Calleigh and Sophie.
