Obituary of Elizabeth Raffa
Elizabeth A. Raffa, age 93, of Middletown, Rhode Island died peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2017. She was born in Syracuse, New York on December 27, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Joseph A. McEnness and Agnes O'Connor McEnness.
After graduation from high school with distinction as Salutatorian of her class in Elbridge, New York, Betty lived in New York City to attend The Julliard School of Music. Betty was a professional singer, and was asked to sing with the Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra. Betty followed her heart to Newport to start a life with her husband Samuel Raffa, and raised four children in Middletown. Later, Betty helped Sam successfully run Uplands Motel (one of the first motels in the area) for over 40 years. Betty was an avid gourmet cook with a collection of hundreds of cookbooks, and was an early advocate of natural health foods and supplements. Betty was active with Cluny School in Newport, and is a parishioner of St. Lucy's Parish.
Betty married the late Samuel S. Raffa of Newport, and is survived by her children Rosalind Webster, Peter Raffa, Michael Raffa, and Christopher Raffa, and her two grandchildren, Nicole Raffa and Brendan Webster, her brother Joseph A. McEnness and numerous other family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown at 9 am. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown’s Lane, Middletown, RI. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
