Obituary of Guntis Melbardis

Guntis (Gus, Gunti) Melbardis, 75, of Newport RI, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in Newport RI.

Guntis was born in Jelgava, Latvia to Felix and Alma Melbardis on May 16, 1943.  His family escaped Latvia towards the end of WWII for Lugano, Switzerland. From there the family moved through Canada and then immigrated to the United States in 1952, landing in ­Chicago. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan Tech where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi.  Guntis was a founding partner of Electronic Testing Company (ETC), MelCo Cattle Company and MCM industries.

Guntis is survived by his sister Ruta Graff of Richmond Virginia, two daughters, Maija Melbardis of Providence, RI, Krista Melbardis of Los Angeles, CA, son, Kriss Melbardis of Ventura, CA, and his grandson Nikolajs (Niko) Melbardis.

The Family wishes peace and love to the numerous friends that became part of our extended family. 

Guntis took great pride in providing for his family.  He also loved to swim, ski, eat good food and listen to music especially WWOZ and live music.  He was Algiers Point’s Santa Claus for years.

Guntis had also lived in: Dana Point CA, Newport RI, Rehoboth MA, New Orleans, LA and numerous other locations. He was able to make friends wherever he went.
