Gloria R. Pignatelli, of Sylvan Street, Newport, RI died peacefully on Monday, April 23, 2018 one day before her 96th Birthday.
Born in Pittsfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Michael A. and Rachael (Celozza) Pignatelli.
She is preceded in death by her sister Anne Anderson.
Ms. Pignatelli attended St. Augustin School in Newport and graduated from Rogers High School in 1939. After graduation Gloria attended Trinity College in Washington, DC where she received a Liberal Arts degree in Library Studies. Gloria then went on and served 4 years in the United States Navy, in the intelligence department and retired as a Lieutenant. When she completed her service in the military, she took on a career as a Librarian for 20 years in the Lakeland School district of Westchester County, NY.
Upon her retirement she returned to Newport were she enjoyed her time playing tennis, gardening, antiquing and of course reading some of her favorite books. Gloria also loved to travel to some her favorite places St. Croix and Ireland.
She will be missed by some of her close friends Paul Murphy, Audrey Hopf and her Saturday morning Newport Creamery crew.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 27, at 10am at St. Augustin’s Church, Carroll Avenue, Newport. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Columba Cemetery, 465 Brown’s Lane, Middletown, RI.
