Abigail M. Price of Portsmouth, R.I. passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 in Newport, R.I. Born in Benghazi, Libya in 1960 to the late Rita Reilly Price and the late Robert Price, Abigail returned to her mother’s hometown as a child and attended Newport schools. She graduated from Wheaton College, received her J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, and received a Masters of Law from N.Y.U.
Abigail spent most of her legal career working to help the refugee communities around the world. She spent a number of years with the International Rescue Committee based in New York, Kids in Need of Defense in Washington, D.C., and ended her career with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. She also spent a year in Geneva, Switzerland working for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her Aunt Dorothy Nicholson, and Uncles James J. Reilly, Jr. and Joseph J. Nicholson. Surviving are cousins Dorothy Nicholson, Joseph and Jennifer Nicholson, and Mary and Craig Sampson, and their families. Abigail also leaves a host of dear friends around the world that comforted her in her journey through life. Abigail loved her friends, parties, dogs, and travel, but her favorite place was Third Beach.
A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to organizations dealing with the plight of refugees, such as the International Rescue Committee, www.rescue.org, or to the Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
