David M. Watkins, age 66, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2019, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was born July 9, 1952, in Newport Hospital to Marjorie Watkins and Donald Lyle Watkins. He was a graduate from Rogers High School of the class of 1972 and continued his studies in Boston College. He lived a life full of varying careers of carpentry, roofing, landscaping, and maintenance from coast to coast. He eventually found his soulmate and settled down to marry Edith M. Cinotti on January 31, 1990.
His death marked the end to a long and brutal battle with stage IV kidney cancer. He fought to the last breath to share every moment he could with the family he loved so dearly. He was a strong and gentle soul who lived by the moment, with his heart on his sleeve and his opinion readily on his lips. He is survived by his wife, Edith; his son, Justin; his brothers Donald Watkins, Robert Watkins, Steven Watkins, Alan Burke, Joseph Woehrle, and Eddy Woehrle; and his sister, Hazel Lynn.
He was a kind and carefree friend, a wise and humbling father, and a devoted and loving husband. He struggled at times in life but always found his way, as good people found him. The bonds he shared with those throughout his life were tempered in his good-natured spirit and his unwavering faith. He shall forever be remembered in the moments he was laughing with friends on a beach, hugging family on their porch, or enjoying a show or book in quiet solitude; always with a quick smile and a wink in our direction.
Our love for him is unfathomable, and our hearts shall forever hold him close. We would love anyone to come to his service at St. Joseph’s Church 93 Broadway, Newport, RI at 9:30 AM on Saturday, July 6, 2019, to revel in his memories and his presence and pay respects to him, as all good men deserve.
