Mr. Henry C. Rayner, 88, of Maher Ct., Newport, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Village House on Harrison Avenue. Born in Central Falls, Mr. Rayner was the husband of the late Catherine "Kip" Rayner. Henry was raised in Newport, and attended St. Augustin Grammar School and De la Salle Academy. During his teen years, Henry became one of the founding members of the Almy Pond Hunt Club. After graduating from De la Salle in 1937, he began his 40 year career as a painter for the Navy. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his unfailing kindness and generosity to those in need. Throughout his life, he cultivated friendships like he cultivated his prized vegetables and dahlias. Henry was the son of the late Henry A. Rayner and Ellen (Downey) Rayner of Newport. He was the beloved father of Cathleen Rayner, Carol Rayner, and Thomas Rayner and his wife Ellen of Newport, and Claire Rayner of Narragansett. Henry was the brother of Helen Lappin of Newport. He was the father-in-law of Marianne Rayner-Rhodes of New Bern, NC. He was the grandfather of Barbara Erausquin, Sarah, Brian and Henry Rayner of Newport, Daniel Lynch of Providence, Terrence Lynch of Seattle, WA, and John, Matthew and Erin Rayner of New Bern, NC. Henry was a great-grandfather of four. Henry was the father of the late John, Eileen, and Elizabeth Rayner, and brother of the late Pauline Betz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 9:00am, at St. Augustin's Church, Carrol Ave, Newport. Burial at St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Ln., Middletown. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 21, from 4:00-7:00pm in the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home.
