Obituary of Arthur Lusignan
Arthur L. Lusignan, 88, of Newport, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in Providence, Mr. Lusignan was the son of Delore Victor and Mae Isabelle (Hillman) Lusignan. He had held positions as supervisor at the former Hi-Hat Foods Co., and machine operator at the E. Rosen Co. After retiring in 1992, he travelled extensively before moving to Newport in 2000.
Mr. Lusignan was an Army veteran, serving in Germany in the early 1950’s. He is survived by a brother Eugene Lusignan of Exeter, and many nieces and nephews. One of nine siblings, he is predeceased by sisters Olive Ratte and Dorothy Neary, as well as by brothers Delore Victor Jr., Lawrence, John, Donald and George Lusignan.
Arthur was known for his compassion, his generosity and his welcoming smile. He cared for his fellow man, his Roman Catholic faith, his family and friends. Calling hours will be from 4-6pm on Tuesday, April 3 at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, April 4 at St. Mary’s Church in Newport. Internment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Arthur’s name to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 N. Main St. Providence 02904.
