Obituary of Jean Allan
Jean L. Allan of Newport passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Heatherwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. Born in Newport, August 22, 1930, she was the daughter of John H. Allan and Carol (Barlow) Allan.
She leaves a brother, John T. Allan and his wife Nancy of Newport, one sister, Barbara L. Williams of West Greenwich. Also, two nieces, Lisa Williams Finneran of Coventry and Jennifer Fontaine and husband Simon of Surprise, Arizona. Three nephews, John and James Allan of Middletown and Gary A. Williams of West Greenwich, two great nieces, Jayna Allan of Middletown and Caitlin Finneran of West Warwick, three great nephews, Connor and Riley Fontaine of Surprise, Arizona and Justin Allan of Middletown.
Jean was a Rogers High School Graduate, a member of the class of 1948. She was a communicant of Emmanuel Church, and volunteered there as well as at the Newport Hospital, King Center and the Potter League for Animals.
She was a secretary and administrative assistant during her working years. She spent 15 years in California returning to Newport in 1974. After her retirement from NUWC in 1992, she enjoyed traveling, making trips to England, Germany, France and Switzerland and took cruises to Alaska and the Bay of Fundy. She had a lifelong fascination with local events and enjoyed walking around her beloved Newport.
A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., Newport on Friday, July 13th at 2:00 PM followed by a reception in the adjoining parish house. Donations in her memory may be made to the Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
