Obituary of Tricia Booth
Patricia Anne (Swanson) Booth, born November 23, 1956 in Newport, RI and a lifelong Aquidneck Island resident, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 with her family by her side at her home in Portsmouth after a long and courageous battle with cancer. In true Tricia fashion she fought to the very end, she was 61.
Tricia graduated from Rogers High School in 1974 and Newport Hospital School of Nursing 1978 after which she started a 36-year career in nursing.
In 1975 she met dreamboat and future husband James (Jim) Booth in Newport. The pair would be wed for 41 years, make a home in Portsmouth, and have three sons; James, Thompson, and John. In October 2017 they welcomed grandson Cameron James.
A devoted mother, Tricia tirelessly instilled a strong foundation of honesty, hard work, and accountability. She fostered interests in music, sports, literature, history, and emphasized the importance of friendships. The boys always knew they could count on her vast knowledge for sage advice. Tricia was very active in all of her boys’ activities and athletics seemingly managing to be everywhere and do everything. She was always very giving of her time and energy and was famous for organizing events and parties, most notably the 21-year run of clambakes at her home in Portsmouth.
Tricia had a memorable laugh, a quick wit, and a warm-kind-nurturing heart. She was stubborn, proud, and confident. Intelligent, playful and fun loving. She was the light of Jim’s life. His wife and best friend, she encouraged him to travel and challenged him to get out of his comfort zone. Their life was filled with a tight knit group of friends and family. They enjoyed hunting for antiques and tractor parts, putting the finishing touches on their dream home, living through and reminiscing about the adventures and misadventures of raising three fine young men, and simply being together.
Tricia loved Aquidneck Island and her house in New Hampshire.
She loved her dogs.
Above all, she loved her family.
She will be sorely missed.
Tricia was preceded in death by her sister Eileen, mother Ellen, and father Walter Swanson all of Newport, RI.
She is survived by her Husband, James (Jim) H. Booth and their golden retriever Orlaith D. of Portsmouth; their sons James and his girlfriend Holly of Portsmouth, Thompson, his wife Misty and their son Cameron of Charlestown, MA, and John of Conshohocken, PA; sisters; Peggy Upham, Kate Wheeler, and Ruth Cudworth, all of Newport, RI; Aunts, Uncles and Cousins in RI, GA and NY; and many great friends all over the world.
