Mary Lehane Horgan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Joseph and Loretta Lehane and sister to the Reverend Joseph Lehane, C.S.C. and Robert Lehane. Mary was born on December 24, 1932 in Newport, R.I. She graduated from St. Catherine’s Academy and received her BS in Nursing and Masters in Early Childhood Development from Salve Regina University.
Mary was married to her husband Patrick H. Horgan II for 62 years and devoted to her family. Mary, affectionately known as “Mimi”, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and a “true blue” friend to all. She is survived by her children Cindy (Chris Bushnell), Harry (Susie), Patrick (Margaret) and Kevin (Jen) and her grandchildren Meghan, Chris, Andy, Eli, Henry, Nina and Kenna.
She always found joy in giving to others whether it was to her patients at St. Joseph’s Hospital or her students at the Early Childhood Development Program in the Newport School System. Mary was instrumental in founding Shake-A-Leg, was an ardent supporter of The Cluny School and a member of the Ladies of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Mary celebrated life to the fullest, with her radiant smile and generous spirit. She loved music, and dancing and singing with her family and friends. At Christie’s Restaurant, Mary and Pat welcomed everyone - bringing people together and forging many lifelong friendships. She was a member of Hazard’s Beach, a proud alumnus of Salve Regina, an active member at St. Augustin’s Church in Newport and St. Ambrose Church in Deerfield Beach, FL.
Mary was best friends to many and kind to all. She will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
