Obituary of William Duy

William E. Duy, 84, of 600 Valley Rd., Middletown, RI., formerly of 24 Mary St., Newport, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the John Clarke Retirement Center. Born in Bloomsburg, PA., on February 16, 1923, he was a son of the late Albert W. Duy, Jr. and Beatrice (Ely) Duy. After graduating from High School, William joined the United States Navy where he trained to be an Aviator Pilot and flew the Avenger TBF. While he was stationed at Quonset Point in 1944, he was known by many to have "buzzed" the Jamestown Bridge. William was also stationed in Pensicola, FL. After serving in the Navy, he obtained a degree in Finance at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He then pursued an investment banking career that he started with Hanover Bank in Manhattan, NY, before moving on to work for Chester Dale with W.C. Langley, and eventually Laird Bissell and Meed. After living in Manhattan, he spent many wonderful years in Bucks County, PA. where he lived with his wife and family while restoring their old farmhouse. In 1994, William retired to his most favorite place, Newport, RI. He was a member of the Mayflower Society and the St. Anthony Club. William is survived by a daughter, Mimi D. Ketcham and son-in-law George B. Ketcham of Newport, a son, Pierre V. Duy and daughter-in-law Carla M. Duy of Herdon, VA, a sister, Sue D. Radice and her husband Frank Radice of Bloomsburg, PA., two grandchildren, Genevieve C. Duy and Griffin W. Duy, and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
