Our deepest sympathy to Deb, Tony, and all their family members. Betty was truly a remarkable woman. After moving to RI from MA in 1974 I had the pleasure of working with Betty as one of the secretaries in the Newport County Mental Health Clinic office under her management. She was so wonderful to work for — welcoming, funny, and very helpful. Being new to the area she kind of “took me under her wing”. Spending time with Betty and Dean we learned a lot about the area and about how much they had enjoyed living in Colorado! They introduced us to the Mexican Nights at the Pocasset Country Club and enjoyed nights out to dinner with them and some of their friends. Dean always said that if your nose didn’t run when you ate it — it wasn’t spicy enough! You needed to be out west for real Mexican food! A couple of years later when they moved back to CO Betty left a few of her beloved plants with us to later bring out to her as we were driving out west on vacation. So we did get to taste the real spicy food after all. They treated us to a lovely visit at their home and the cabin. Well the friendship carried on throughout the years. Four more CO visits to see them while on other trips we made out to various western states — always feeling very welcomed and often seeing them when they visited Deb & Tony here in RI. Later when she traveled alone we’d visit and/or pick her up and spend the day/evenings catching up on things and of course checking out open houses at newly built properties — one of her favorite things to do. It amazed me how much she remained so full of life, energy and interest in things as she aged. Betty was a great listener and taught me to live life and enjoy it. She was always so active in so many things almost to the point of never stopping! About seven years ago on my last visit to see her in CO I met some of her lovely and funny friends. She had remained positive and very active and was still having a great time! We even spent time at the library where she volunteered while I was there. On that visit our last CO adventure was a beautiful drive to Boulder for a lovely afternoon tea and I was more tired than she was at the end of the day and I’m 27 years her junior. Some time was spent together since her move back to RI but in hindsight sadly it just seemed to not be as often as we should have. She will be truly missed, never forgotten and we will always treasure our long friendship. Always in our hearts and prayers. Irene and Howard Graham

To the Family of Betty Calvin, I offer my deepest sympathy. I met Betty in 1968. I was just starting as a clinical psychologist at the Newport County Mental Health Clinic in Newport, which had just opened its doors 4 years earlier. There was still a newness about the organization and we were feeling our way around how to best serve our clients. In the middle of all this was Betty, our Office Manager, Secretary, Administrative Assistant, and Chief Organizer. She was so smart, affable, resourceful, and unflappable, making it possible for us to get things done. I remember Betty with considerable fondness and appreciation. I remember Dean as well and their memories of Colorado and how welcoming they were into their home on numerous occasions. I will be praying for Betty and Dean, ever grateful for their past friendship. Most sincerely, Bud Cicilline - Newport, RI
