Obituary of Rosa Herzog
Rosa Herzog, age 98, passed away in her sleep on January 25, 2021 due to lung cancer. She was born October 22, 1922, in Mainaschaff, Germany, to Wendelin and Katharina Roth. She married her longtime friend and love, Rudolph Joseph Herzog on May 17, 1947, who preceded her in death on May 30, 2007.
Rosa and Rudolph immigrated to the U.S. in 1949 and shortly thereafter established the Quality Bakery, which they ran until 1997.
Rosa was an excellent cook of German dishes and became a dedicated Yankees fan after developing an interest in baseball by watching her three sons play little league.
Rosa is survived by her son, Rudolf, daughter-in-law, Bonnie and grandson, Carey, of Wareham, Mass; her son, Peter, and grandson, Stefan, of St. Paul, MN; and her son Alfred, of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; her nephew, Rudolf Roth and niece, Katarina Roth, of Mainaschaff Germany, and her niece, Siegrid Giesa, and her husband, Manfred Giesa, of Aschaffenburg, Germany. Also survived by Nancy Herzog, Roseville, Minnesota and last but not least, her longtime friend, Judy Graves, and her husband Harold. Judy was like the daughter Rosa never had. Judy’s care and help, particularly in Rosa’s last years, provided comfort beyond what words can express.
Rosa loved her family and friends and touched them deeply. She treasured her time with them and always served them from the heart.
Her funeral and burial will be private. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Funeral arrangements by the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, RI 02840.
Funeral services will be private.
