Perry was a true gentleman with a very sharp wit. I will always fondly remember Perry by his staple stance, hands on hips with a huge Cheshire Cat smile. I have always been inspired by his passion for sailing, as well as his involvement and leadership within the boating world. I have been friends with his daughters Story and Tyler since we were teenagers, as such, I always looked up to him. Perry was a man of class and a dear friend. There is not a day I sail pass the Oliver Hazzard Perry without fondly thinking of him and all his accomplishments. It's only fitting to end this with a phrase Perry used often while in his element "Roger that, over and out."

I was a friend of Perry’s years ago when he was married to Sally. My first husband Timothy Dwyer and Perry sailed together and our families enjoyed each other’s company. I left Newport over 30 years ago and lost contact. I send my sympathy to his family.
