Obituary of Pauline Hamill

Pauline E. "Peg" Hamill, 72, of 66 Girard Ave, Newport, formerly of 11 McCormick Rd, passed peacefully Saturday, August 11, 2007, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late George J. "Red" Hamill. Peg was born in Newport on November 14, 1934. She was a daughter of the late Albert E. "Tip" Bowley and Emma M. (Honnen) Bowley. Peg worked as a crossing guard for the City of Newport for 30 years, often seen in front of St. Augustin's Church. She was a graduate of the former St. Catherine's Academy, Class of 1952. Prior to her marriage, Peg worked for the New England Telephone Company in Newport. She worked in a hospital nursery for six months while her husband was stationed in Newburgh, New York, and came back to Newport in 1960. Peg was a Boy Scout & Cub Scout Den Mother. She was also a life-long parishioner of St. Augustin's Church and was an active volunteer for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny. Peg is survived by her son Paul J. Hamill, with whom she lived; grandchildren Shannon Hamill-Conklin and Michael N. Hamill, both of Middletown; great grand-babies Kimberlee Hamill and Shaun Hamill-Conklin; her sister, Lorraine Walker and her husband Charles "Skip" Walker of Middletown and Altoona, FL.; and her daughter-in-law Jean (Camara) Hamill of Middletown. She was the mother of the late Colleen Frances Hamill, Colleen Marie Hamill, Pamela Jean Hamill, and George Michael "Mike" Hamill; grandmother of the late George Michael Hamill, Jr. and great grandmother of the late Brooklynne Ilyazia Hamill; sister of the late Albert E. Bowley, and William P. Bowley; and mother in-law of the late Carolyn "Carrie" Hamill. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007, at 10am, at St. Augustin's Church, Carroll Ave, Newport. Burial at St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, 5:00-8:00 pm, at the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, RI., 02840. Donations may be made in Peg's memory to the Cluny School Capital Campaign, 75 Brenton Rd., Newport, RI., 02840.
