Obituary of Pauline Conklin Shea

Pauline Conklin Shea, 93, of Russell Avenue, Newport, passed away surrounded by her family August 22, 2007 at Village House. She was the wife of the late Sgt. Raymond "Minnie" Shea, of the Newport Police Dept. Born June 3, 1914, Pauline was a lifelong resident of Newport. During her teenage years, Pauline was a seamstress for dressmaker Marie Hammond which led to her life-long love of, and talent for, sewing. Her most favorite being the creation of beautiful Easter outfits for her daughters and granddaughters. She later worked at the Navel Exchange, Clambake Club and the Graycraig Estate. Her main love in life was being a wonderful and compassionate mom and grandmother to her children, grandchildren and great-grand children. "Nana Shea" enjoyed cooking, baking cupcakes and brownies, sitting in the sun, growing tomatoes, attending her granddaughters' sporting events & school activities and spending time with her family. She leaves behind daughter and son-in-law, Patti & Ray Fullerton, daughter Barbara Shea, daughter-in-law Betty Shea, granddaughter Susan Dugan, grandson-in-law Brian Dugan, granddaughter Casey Shea Fullerton, great grandsons, Brian Dugan, Jr. and Patrick Dugan. She was the mother of the late Terrence Shea. She also leaves behind her honorary first daughter, Ginny Rose Kenny. Pauline was the last remaining sibling of the Conklin family clan of Cannon St. in Newport. She was pre-deceased by her mother and father, Emaline Manley Conklin and Robert Conklin, and nine brothers and sisters, Emaline "Lovey" Harmon, Anna Peirson, Harriett Appell, Roberta "Snookie" Elliott, Edith Greer, Florence Vogel, Alfred "Brud" Conklin, Muriel Shelton and Robert Conklin, Jr. Visiting hours will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 25, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph's Church, Broadway, Newport. Burial at St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown. Donations in Pauline's memory may be made to the Newport Police Relief Association, c/o Newport Police Dept., 120 Broadway, Newport, or Hospice of Visiting Nurse of Newport & Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Rd., Portsmouth, RI.
