Obituary of Stephen Douglas
Stephen P. Douglas, 56, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at the Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center in Newport, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Stephen was born in Newport, RI, on May 7, 1951. He was the son of Roseline (Cinalli) Douglas and the late Philip H. Douglas. He was a graduate of Rogers High School, Class of 1969.
As a self-taught, qualified and prize winning chef, he worked at The Ramada Inn of Portsmouth, The Sheraton Islander Hotel, Benjamin's, and The Boathouse of Newport, TPC Sawgrass of Jacksonville Fl., and until his illness, as the Executive Chef of The Beachcomber Restaurant and Resort in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.
He was a sports enthusiast and loyal Red Sox and Patriots fan. He was an avid reader and tennis player, a gifted pool shooter and an artist in the kitchen.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his brother Gregory D. Douglas and his wife Michele of Newport, and sisters Sandra Douglas of Honolulu, Hi., Margaret Douglas of Middletown, and Janis Douglas of Portsmouth, and a very dear friend, Fred Watson of Portsmouth.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, September 8, 2007, at 11:00am, at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Rd., Portsmouth, RI.
