Obituary of Robert House

CPO Robert E. House, 79, of 19 Chapel St., formerly of 16 Donna Dr., Portsmouth, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at the Newport Hospital. He was born in Bloomington, IL., on July 9, 1928. He was a son of the late Albert E. and Jessie (Hayner) House. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and had also served in the Korean and Vietnam War before retiring 22 years later in 1965. Chief House was a lifetime member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, a charter member of the World War II Memorial, U.S. Navy Memorial, and the D-Day Memorial. He is survived by his two sons, Patrick E. House and his wife Mary Ann of Marquette, MI, and Jerry R. House of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Desiree R. House of Newport, Jerry Richard House, Jr. of Portsmouth, Robert E. House II of Portsmouth, Cora Marlowe House of Marquette, MI., and Michael Ray Edward House of Marquette, MI.; and three great-grandchildren, Brett Edward House, Stephen Kenneth House, and Rhiannon Abigail House. He was the brother of the late Clifford House and Ina Sharffenburg. Burial will take place at the Rhode Island Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Rd., Exeter, RI., with a graveside service and full military honors on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 10:00 am. Visiting hours are private.
