Obituary of Teresa Mathews

Teresa (Rybinska) Mathews, 73, of Middletown, RI., died on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at her home in Middletown. Teresa, daughter of the late Wanda and Czeslaw Rybinski, was born in 1934, in Warsaw, Poland. After the war in 1946, she left Poland with her family to follow her father, who was sent to Brazil to open the Consulate of Poland in Rio de Janeiro. She lived there during her formative years. She is a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy of Rio and Cambridge University of England. She taught school in Rio. After working for the British and Indian Embassies, Teresa left Brazil to transfer to the India Supply Mission in Washington, D.C. While in D.C., she met, and later married her beloved husband of 48 years, John F. "Hap" Mathews of Middletown, RI. She is survived by her husband and four daughters, Carole, Sharen, Joanne, and Christine, their respective spouses, and eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her only sister, Anna Maria Rybinska of Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 26, 2007, at 10:00 am, at St. Augustin's Church, corner of Carroll and Harrison Avenues, Newport. It will be followed by internment at St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
