Obituary of Marie Thompson

Marie A. (Sullivan) Thompson, 82, of Red Cross Ave., Newport, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2007, at Village House Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Albert J. Thompson. Born in Port Chester, New York, on December 8, 1924, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Helen (Moriarty) Sullivan. Marie was a graduate of Rogers High School, Class of 1942. She was employed as a secretary in Washington, D.C., New York City, and the Naval War College before becoming a full time homemaker in 1960. Marie was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order of Newport, and a parishioner and lector of St. Mary's Church. She was a daily communicant of local Catholic Churches, and a tireless volunteer for numerous organizations such as Meals on Wheels and the Friendly Visitors Program. She is survived by her sons Stephen J. Thompson and his wife Kristina of Portsmouth, and Christopher P. Thompson and his wife Susan of Montara, CA; 4 grandchildren, Erica, Dylan, Sean and Angela, and her sister Rita Budlong of Newport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at 9:00 am at St. Mary's Church, Spring St., Newport. Burial to follow at St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, November 27, from 4:00-7:00 pm in the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home. Donations may be made in Marie's memory to Meals on Wheels of R.I., 70 Bath St., Providence, RI., 02908-4849.
