Obituary of Nancy Colton

Nancy H. Colton, 58, of Eveherdee Carriage House, 448 Gibbs Avenue, Newport, died Friday April 13, 2007 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Providence on October 4, 1948, she was a daughter of the late James C. Colton and Barbara (Ahern) Colton. Nancy is survived by her two sisters Martha Crowley and Connie Hayes, her nephews Patrick Crowley and Christopher "Chip" Hayes, and a niece Nory Hayes. She was also the aunt of the late James C. Crowley Nancy moved to Newport, from Providence, in 1960 and was a graduate of Saint Catherine Academy and Mount Saint Joseph College. Miss Colton taught in the Middletown School System for 32 years, retiring in 2003. In her retirement, Nancy enjoyed being an assistant in the Children's Room at the Newport Public Library. She spent many happy hours with her golden retriever Bogey, playing tennis and reading at the beach. Nancy will be remembered by her many, many loyal friends and co-workers. Nancy's Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at St. Mary's Church, Spring St., Newport at 10:00 am. Burial at St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, R.I. Visiting hours will be held on Monday April 16, 2007, at the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Donations may be made in Nancy's memory to the Potter League for Animals, P.O. Box 412, Newport or to the Newport Public Library, 300 Spring St., Newport, RI 02840.
