Obituary of Mary Basile

Mary Basile, 81 of 109 Third Street, Newport, died Monday, May 7, 2007 at home, unexpectedly. She was the wife of the late Orazio J. "Ray" Basile. Mary was born in North Tiverton, Rhode Island on August 2, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel (Farias) Costa. Mary worked for 15 years of the State of Rhode Island, Department of Human Services on Elm St. in Newport; she retired in 1985 as a principal clerk. In her retirement Mary loved to cook, work in her garden and going to the beach, especially Easton's Beach in Newport. A longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Newport. Mary is survived by her sons, Paul M. Basile and his wife Debra of Hope Valley, R.I. Thomas J. Basile and his wife Pam of Middletown, R.I. Mary's grandchildren, Bridget, Justin, Brent, Lindsey and Keith Basile. Mary was also the companion of the late John "Jake" Catterall of Newport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 11, 2007 at St. Joseph Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport at 10:00am. Burial at St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, R.I. Visiting hours Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
