Obituary of Ruth Cullen

Ruth (Kilduff) Cullen, 85, of Bailey Ave, Middletown, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, FL. She was the wife of the late George F. Cullen. Born in Boston, MA on March 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Anna Flaherty Kilduff. Growing up in the Boston area, Ruth graduated from St. Margarets High School in Dorchester, Boston Secretarial School, and worked for a time at Westinghouse. In 1948, she married her husband George and moved to Newport, RI where she was a member and President of the Jay-C-ettes. In 1957, they moved to Jericho, NY where Ruth worked at BOCES on Long Island. While there, she was a Parishioner and President of the Marion Guild at St. Paul's Church. In 1976 the family moved back to Middletown, RI. Ruth worked for several years in the antique business in downtown Newport. She was also employed at Electric Boat and Zimmerman Company during the 1980's. Ruth's biggest and most proud accomplishment was her family. Through her love, her family remained devoted to her and close to each other. She was most happy when surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters Ann Higbie and husband Rick, Ruth Mueller and husband Peter, and Sharon Cullen; her son Timothy Cullen; son-in-law William Fanning; her grandchildren Jennifer DiVenti, Amanda Sulesky, Sean Mueller, Rhett Cullen, Henry Cullen, Dawn Moore, William Fanning, and Lisa Gaffett; great-grandchildren Olivia DiVenti, Jack DiVenti, Emma DiVenti, George Sulesky, Isabella Sulesky, Cullen Fanning, Dylan Coons, Sandra, Sarah and Brady Gaffett; her sister Claire Duncklee, her brothers Francis Kilduff and his wife Marie, Robert Kilduff and his wife Joan, and sister-in-law Mary Kilduff. She was the mother of the late Maureen Fanning and the sister of the late John Kilduff and Edward Kilduff. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 23, 2009 at 10am in St. Mary's Church, Spring St, Newport. Graveside burial at St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Ln, Middletown. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 22, from 3-6pm in the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, RI.
