Obituary of Algie Bell

Algie V. Bell, 85, passed away, Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Bayberry Commons, Pascoag, R.I., surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary (Hoey) Bell. Born in Smyrna, North Carolina, on July 29, 1921, he was the son of the late Lillie Mae Willis. Algie lived in Newport for 37 years. He had previously resided in Cumberland. A 20 year Navy veteran, he had achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. Upon retiring from active duty, he earned a Bachelor's Degree and an MBA from Bryant College. He was a civilian employee for over 20 years at the Newport Naval Base. He was a loving father of Michael Bell, Richard Bell, Regina Hood, Barbara Bell the late James Bell, Christine Foust, and Brian Bell. He was the doting Granddad of Richard, Mary, Jeffrey, Jamie, Michael, Kolbe, and Matthew. Funeral service will take place Saturday, March 24, 2007 at the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport at 10:00 am. Burial with Military Honors at Trinity Cemetery, Portsmouth, R.I. Visiting hours Friday, March 23, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Algie memory to Smyrna United Methodist Church, C/O Clarice Willis, P.O. Box 3, Smyrna, NC 28579
