Obituary of Maria Mitchell

Maria G. (Carano) Mitchell, 73, of 8 Yarnell Avenue, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Sunday January 7, 2007, after a courageous and hard fought 13-year battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Bobby Mitchell; they celebrated their 50th anniversary in April 2006. She was born in Warwick, R.I., the daughter of Bettina (Santilli) Carano and the late Joseph Carano, Jr. She had been a resident of Middletown for the last 27 years, and previously resided in Newport for 17 years. Maria was the loving mother of Joyce Broeseker and her husband, Tim Broeseker, of Tallahassee, Florida and Bobby Mitchell, Jr. and wife Susan of Middletown. Grandmother to Lauren, Emily and Andrew Broeseker, and Stephanie, Bobby III, and Sara Mitchell, greatgrandmother to Chloe Little. Besides her husband, mother, children, and grandchildren she is survived by two sisters, Celia Gosselin and Linda Carano, of Warwick; and two brothers, Dino Carano and Joseph Carano III, of Warwick; and several nieces and nephews. She worked as a bookkeeper at Saint Clare Home in Newport for 20 years, and previously at Newport Hospital. She loved her job and especially loved spending time with her family. A funeral mass, at which relatives and friends are invited, will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lucy's Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
