Obituary of Gerald Gallagher

Gerald M. Gallagher, 66, of Bristol, RI, died January 11, 2007, at his winter home in Boca Grande, FL, after a year illness He was born January 6, 1941 in New York City. He was the husband of Sigrid Schoenebeck Gallagher and the son of the late Stephen L. G. Constance Murty Gallagher. Raised in Scarsdale, NY, Gerry traveled the world in sales management for the 3M Company and lived in California, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Belgium, Chicago, St. Paul, and Southborough, MA, as well as the last nine years in Bristol, RI. He leaves four step-children: Jessica Verniers, Yuri Verniers, Keleigh Kaufman, Michelle Mendoza, and ten grandchildren His sister, Margery-Jane and her husband James H. Connelly, of Rancho Bernardo, CA, his brother, Stephen L. Jr. and his wife Sandra Gallagher, of Portland, OR and his brother W. Gregory Gallagher, of New York, NY Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Marianne Schoenebeck of Jamestown, RI and sisters-in-law Sabine, and her husband William Dinsmoor, of Anacortes, WA and Maire-Luise, and her husband Gregory Hedberg of Jamestown, RI. Survivors also include an aunt, Mrs. Thomas A.(Ella) Gallagher and cousins, Nancy O'Neill, Larry Gallagher and Dennis Gallagher. Gerry attended New York State Maritime Academy in 1959 and received his BS degree in 1962 from Bethany College in West Virginia, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He served on active duty with the U.S. Navy, 1962-1966 and in the Navy Reserve, 1966-1983, retiring as Commander. He was employed by AMP in Harrisburg, PA in 1966 and for 39 years by the 3M Company from 1967 until his retirement, December 31, 2006. He was an avid sailor and golfer. He was a member of the Waikiki Yacht Club, Honolulu, HI and a member of various golf clubs around the world. Locally, he was an associate of Montaup Country Club, Portsmouth, RI and played in the Swansea Country Club golf league. A Funeral Service will be held at the Chapel of Hope, 1172 Vaughan St., Newport, Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 11:00am. .
