Obituary of Grace Callahan

Grace M Callahan of Newport, formerly of Stamford CT, died Friday January 22, 2007. She was 85. Born in East Mountain, Pennsylvania on November 19, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Kate Marquard Skibinski, and the wife of the late Thomas F. Callahan, Sr. Mrs. Callahan was a graduate of Central High School in Scranton, PA and the Stamford School of Nursing. During World War II she served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Nurse Corp at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. She returned to the Stamford Hospital as an RN for many years, working in the OR and ER. For 25 years she was associated with the Stamford Health Department as a public health nurse. She was a member of the Stamford Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association and the Stamford Yacht Club. In Newport she volunteered at the International Yacht and Restoration school, the International Tennis Hall of Fame and the Newport Chapter of the American Red Cross. She is survived by her son, Thomas F. Callahan, Jr, his wife Roxanne C. Callahan and two grandchildren Faye and Briggs Callahan of Newport. The family will be having a private service.
