Obituary of Thomas Thompson

Thomas C. Thompson, 53, of 15 Sheffield Avenue, Newport, R.I., died Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Providence. Thomas was born in Bainbridge, Maryland on March 6, 1953 to Clifford Jackson Thompson and the late Charlotte Baier Thompson. He grew up in a military family that traveled all over the United States. After graduating from Valley Forge Military Academy & College, he was an officer in the United States Army from 1975-1977, serving in the Panama Canal Zone. Thomas was a salesman for most of his life for Prudential Insurance Company, serving as a sales manager in Connecticut for many years. He led an award winning staff there and repeatedly qualified for the International Business Conference. In his later years he operated a small golf ball restoration and shipping business with his son. He loved the ocean and was an avid surfer. In his younger years he traveled all over the East Coast from Maine to Cape Hatteras, placing and sometimes winning surfing contests held by the Eastern Surfing Association. He was also a diver and fisherman. Thomas is survived by his father, Clifford Jackson Thompson of Weirton, WV, his children, Christopher and Sarah Thompson of Newport, his companion, Mary Alice Lyons of Newport, and 5 siblings: Michael Thompson of San Diego, CA, Clifford Jackson Thompson, Jr. of Newberry, FL, Catherine Di Florio of Weirton, WV, John Thompson of Carlisle, PA, and Stephen D. Thompson of Oceanside, CA.
