Obituary of Donald Hagen

Donald C. Hagen, 66 of 465 Brown's Lane, Middletown, died Tuesday morning, March 13, 2007, after a year illness. He was the husband of Mary A. (McMahon) Hagen. Born on September 15, 1940 in Providence. He was a son of the late Charles H. and Irene H. (Flannelly) Hagen. Don grew up in the North section of Providence. He attended Immaculate Conception School and Mount Pleasant High School. In 1960, Don began his career with the Providence Diocese, Catholic Cemeteries; he worked for over 40 years, retiring in 2004. He was a foreman at St. Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket and was transferred to St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown where he was cemetery Superintendent since 1982. His warm and caring personality help many families throughout his 40 years with Catholic Cemeteries. He will be missed. Don played Softball his whole life up until he was 56 years old. He played on Taylor Construction when they won the State Championship 3 consecutive years, 1968-1970. He was a passionate Red Sox Fan. Besides his wife of 46 years, he leaves his children, Kathie Morris of Lincoln, R.I., Sheila Hagen-Peters of Newport, Colleen Ricci of Cranston and Donald Hagen of West Warwick. His brothers Richard C. Hagen of Warwick, Robert W. Hagen of N. Scituate, Ronald J. Hagen of N. Providence and his sister Joan M. Goyette of Pawtucket. He was known as Papa to his 7 grandchildren, Jessica A. Morris, Kayla A. Morris, Talia A. Ricci, Brendan R.H. Ricci, Meghan K. Peters, Amanda C. Peters and Isabella l. Hagen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 16, 2007 at 9:00 am at St. Lucy's Church, 909 West Main Rd, Middletown. Burial at St. Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket. Visiting hours Thursday, March 15, 2007 at the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
